A scientific theory starts with a fleeting thought that then is validated by experiment. A vision captured in the mind’s eye is the genesis of a photograph, validated by the transcendent emotions evoked by works of art. In my photographs, I hope to convey what I felt in the places I have been and the people whom I’ve met, sometimes near, but often far removed in space and time. I have cumulatively spent years with people who love, laugh, labor and live their lives much as I and your ancestors might have centuries ago. Sometimes my subjects hold beliefs concerning the universe and their place in nature that differ from my own, and probably from those you hold. My photographs also attempt to reflect the diversity of nature. I aim to capture what Henri Cartier-Bresson, termed the “decisive moment” that reflects my mind’s inner images and thoughts.
