My artwork is characterized by a balance between visual expression of my subjects as well as my personal influences. I am interested our relationship with our environment and the spirit of the natural world. I aim to visually capture the essence of these organic subjects in my work. Through color, form, detail I strive to have my subjects speak to the viewer and evoke emotion. I also want my painting or drawing surface to be full of life.

I work primarily by drawing in colored pencil. Layering the pencils allows me to combine the expressiveness of painting with the control of drawing. I like to use color, line, value, shape and light to portray emotion and luminescence in my work and my intent is that each element is reflected in one another and develops simultaneously, deepening a relationship to one another.

Through the years I have also worked in other mediums. I believe through learning different mediums they influence each other and can also be combined. I also work in etching, painting and most recently creating handmade artists books. I’ve worked both on small scale and also large paintings and two murals.
