One hundred years ago, on October 1st, 1921, as Members were enjoying a social evening at the Club, young David Aldrich found artist Angela O’Leary lying near death on the floor of her studio in the Fleur-de-Lys.
We pay tribute to this fascinating artist with an exhibition of her work, generously loaned by her many collectors in the Founders’ Room, please make a point to view the work next time you are at the Club.
On this very special Members’ Night, one hundred years evaporated as key characters in this story reappeared at the Club. Among those you’ll meet are Sydney Burleigh, David and John Aldrich, and Angela herself.
If you missed this sold-out performance by Art Club Members, please enjoy and share this video recording of a night to remember.
Though her tragic suicide and her entrancing portrait overlooking Angell’s Lane are what most Members know about Angela, there is so much more to the life story of this gifted artist. Chris Ratcliffe interviews two experts on Angela O’Leary: Member Ted Mattis and Cathy Bert of the Bert Gallery, as they discuss her life and work, enhanced with images from her history and examples of her work.
