Particular relationships that define space, atmosphere and the play of light, I search for and describe in my artwork. The title for the exhibit, Spatial Metrics, reflects how I see and understand these relationships, and represents a unified perspective in my work in mediums of oils watercolor and porcelain. Making art is a sensory experience – the smell of clay, earth, paint, and water helps me develop a sensitivity to depth of atmosphere and of containment felt inside the picture plane or inside a vessel. Expressions made through developing shape and line become spatial metrics for me. These intersections of space, color and form I create I intend to connect the viewer with the art I make.
