Exhibition Overview

Providence Art Club Exhibiting Artist members are invited to submit one artwork to the Fall Members’ Exhibition 2020. Works in all media are welcome. Works may be no larger than 42″ in any direction, including the frame. All works must be available for purchase, with the Art Club taking 25% commission. Work must be recent and not previously shown in a members’ exhibition at the Art Club. All submissions must be original and may not utilize published photographs. Giclee prints or other reproductions of original artworks are not acceptable.
Works must be properly prepared for installation. Works on paper must be framed and works on canvas should be framed or presented on gallery wrapped canvas with a finished edge. Works should be securely wired with D-Rings. If your work requires an alternative hanging system it must be approved by the Gallery Manager in advance.
Artists must print out and complete in full our special entry form in advance of dropping off. One label should be attached to the back of the piece and the other, delivered to the gallery staff. About Our Awards Judge – Victoria Gao, Director of the Bannister Gallery:
Victoria Gao is the Director of the Bannister Gallery and Exhibitions at Rhode Island College (RIC). Prior to joining RIC in 2018, Ms. Gao served as the Hartnett Gallery Graduate Director at the University of Rochester. At the University of Rochester, Ms. Gao was also the Managing Editor of InVisible Culture, an interdisciplinary online journal that published peer-reviewed articles, creative works, as well as reviews of books, exhibitions, and films. In addition to these experiences, Ms. Gao has held internships at a number of cultural institutions including the High Museum of Art, the George Eastman House, the National Gallery of Art, and the Museum of Modern Art.
A specialist in Photography, Ms. Gao earned her BA in Art History and Physics at Cornell University, and her MA in Visual and Cultural Studies at the University of Rochester. She is currently a PhD Candidate in Visual and Cultural Studies at the University of Rochester. Born in Providence, Victoria is proud to be a member of the bustling arts community here in Rhode Island and serves on the executive board of the nonprofit Gallery Night Providence.
Catalogue Images:
Like our summer show, we will also create a virtual catalogue for our Fall Members’ Show. Please email Michael ( hi-res JPEG images of your work sized at your earliest convenience. Please title your email “Fall Show Image” and include your name and the title of the work in the body of the email. Your image should be labeled LastName_FirstName.jpg. If you are unable to photograph your work, gallery staff are able to.  Should gallery staff photograph work, we are not responsible for color correctness or accuracy. We strongly recommend artists photograph their own work if they have strong preferences. If work is under glass, we strongly recommend you photograph it before framing as any photos taken after it is framed will likely suffer from glare or color distortion.
Exhibition Dates: August 31 – September 18, 2020
Media: Works in All Media are welcome!
Prizes: 14 Awards totaling over $5,000
Eligibility: Open to Exhibiting Artist members only, one submission per artist.
Size: Size limit is 42” x 42”, including the frame. Three-dimensional work may not exceed 42″ in any direction, and may not weigh more than 100lbs. Works should be wired securely with D-Rings.
Delivery of Work: 
August 24 – 27 during gallery hours only (weekdays 12-3pm). Works must be delivered to a member of the gallery staff and may not be left unattended at the Club. All artists must print out and complete in full an accompanying entry sheet in advance of drop off. If your packing material is precious to you, please take it home at the time of drop off. We have very limited storage and cannot guarantee that you will receive your packing materials back at the conclusion of the show.
If you would like to deliver your work outside of gallery hours, please schedule an appointment to do so with Michael Rose. He will be happy to assist!
The Art Club reserves the right to reject works that are improperly prepared or that otherwise do not meet our standards at the discretion of the Art Committee and Gallery Manager.



Removal of Work:  September 21 – 25, Weekdays 12-4pm. Please make every effort to pick up your work in a timely manner. The Art Club has very limited storage space. Works left at the Club may become subject to a storage fee at the discretion of the Gallery Manager and Art Committee.
Insurance: The Art Club carries a blanket policy covering fire and theft, but not breakage. The insurance value is considered 2/3 of the sale price, but no entry is insured for more than $250. For works of higher values we strongly encourage artists to provide their own insurance.
