Providence Art Club Scholarship Exhibition 2019
Over $1,000 in Cash Prizes will be Awarded!
Exhibition Overview: The Providence Art Club invites emerging artists currently enrolled as art majors and minors in colleges and universities throughout the state to exhibit their work in a special exhibition at the Club. This exhibition will feature prizes, including the chance for a select artist to be the subject of a solo exhibition in the Club’s Mary Castelnovo Gallery in 2020. This is a unique opportunity for talented emerging artists to exhibit at one of the nation’s oldest arts organizations and to be recognized for their considerable talent and vision.
Open to students who are Sophomores, Juniors, or Seniors in Fall 2019.
Must be majoring or minoring in Studio Art or related discipline at a Rhode Island college or university.
Work must be original, and properly prepared for installation with hanging apparatus supplied by the artist. If work utilizes non-traditional installation or hanging methods, please contact Gallery Manager Michael Rose to make sure it is acceptable.
Eligible students will apply by completing the Google Form application for this show and then sending up to two hi-res jpeg images along with an artist’s statement and resume to Gallery Manager Michael Rose care of email@example.com. Applications will be accepted April 15 – September 13 of 2019. Gallery Manager Michael Rose will select up to 30 works for exhibition with notification by Monday September 30. There is no entry fee to apply for this show.
Prizes, Over $1,000 in Cash Prizes will be Awarded!
1st place – $1000 in award money plus one year “junior” membership at the Providence Art Club and a solo show in the Club’s Mary Castelnovo Gallery in 2020, along with a framing allowance for this solo exhibition. 1st Place Winner will also have the opportunity to receive mentoring from the Club’s Installation Committee and Gallery Manager.
2nd place – $500 in award money and the opportunity to exhibit one work in the Club’s Class & Staff Exhibition in January of 2020. 2nd Place winner will also have the opportunity to work with Installation Committee to learn about the process of installing an exhibit.
3rd place – $250 in award money and the opportunity to exhibit one work in the Club’s Class & Staff Exhibition in January of 2020. 2nd Place winner will also have the opportunity to work with Installation Committee to learn about the process of installing an exhibit.
Size: Size limit for submissions is 30″ x 30”, including the frame. Three-dimensional work may not exceed 30″ in any direction, and may not weigh more than 100lbs.
Delivery of Work: Monday, October 7 – Friday October 11, 2019 during gallery hours only (weekdays 12-4pm). Morning drop off times can be arranged by appointment. All work must be available for purchase, with the Club taking a 40% Commission on any sold works. All work must be completed within the last two years, and may not be the product of a class, but rather made in the artist’s own studio. Work not wired or properly prepared for installation will not be installed. If you would like to deliver your work outside of gallery hours, please schedule an appointment to do so with Michael Rose. Exhibition Dates: Sunday, October 13 – Friday November 1, 2019. Gallery hours are weekdays 12-4pm, weekends 2-4pm. Admission is always free, and open to the public.
Removal of Work: November 4 – 8, 2019, 12-4pm each day
Please note: The Club has limited artwork storage and artists must pick up their submissions by Friday, September 7. We cannot store artwork from previous shows indefinitely.
Insurance: The Art Club carries a blanket policy covering fire and theft, but not breakage. The insurance value is considered 2/3 of the sale price, but no entry is insured for more than $250.
