Call for Art: Big & Small Show

June 13 - August 10

The Providence Art Club invites Exhibiting Artist Members to submit artwork for our first Big & Small Show, an exhibition that will celebrate works in opposing scales. This show will take place throughout the Club in August of 2017. Works in all media are welcome. Each Exhibiting Artist Member may submit one piece for this exhibition. Our Awards Judge, Artist and Educator Amy Beecher, MFA will award three top prizes. The Best in Show Prize of Dinner for Four at the Art Club, the Best Big Piece and the Best Small Piece, each with prizes of Lunch for Two at the Club.
Each Exhibiting Artist Member of the Art Club may submit one piece.

Awards Judge:
Amy Beecher, MFA, Artist, Professor, and Curator
            Amy Beecher is a visual artist based in Providence and New York. She creates immersive, interdisciplinary installations that combine sound, photography, and sculpture. In addition to working as a practicing artist, Ms. Beecher is an educator and has served as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Studio Art, and a Special Lecturer of Design in the at Providence College. She has previously taught at Yale University and the Rhode Island School of Design.
Ms. Beecher’s work has been the subject of solo exhibitions in New York, Los Angeles, and Providence. She is currently the feature of a solo exhibition for her installation piece Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful Rose! at GRIN Gallery in Olneyville. She has received a number of awards and fellowships including residencies at the Shandaken Project in Shandaken, NY, the New Art Center in Newton, MA, and fellowships at the Vermont Studio Center in Johnston, VT and the MacDowell Colony in Peterborough, NH. Her work has also been written about in national publications such as ArtInfo, Two Coats of Paint, and Art in America and pieces by her can be found in the collections of the Savidge Library at the MacDowell Colony, and the Museum of Modern Art Library.
            Ms. Beecher earned her BA in Visual Arts from Brown University and her MFA in Painting and Printmaking at the Yale University School of Art, where she received the Barry Cohen Scholarship. She is a member of the College Art Association and the National Association of Art Educators.

Sunday, August 13 – Friday, September 1: Exhibition on view at the Art Club
Tuesday, September 5 – Friday, September 8: Artwork must be retrieved by artists.
Rules and Regulations:  
Entries must be original artworks completed within the last two years. All works in the exhibition must be for sale (no “price on request” allowed). Hanging apparatus must be secured to the artwork. Pieces should be securely wired with D-Rings placed a third of the way down the reverse of the object. Cleats or special hooks are acceptable so long as the hanging system is approved with Gallery Coordinator Michael Rose prior to delivery. Works not properly prepared for installation will not be installed. Two-dimensional works may weigh no more than 50 lbs. Three-dimensional works may not be heavier than 150 lbs. The Providence Art Club reserves the right to reject works that are deemed unstable or that are not professionally presented.
Sizing Details:
  • “Big” Submissions should be no less than 30″ in any direction, and may not exceed 72″ in any direction including the frame. Please note a sizing exception: Due to restrictions of standard sized papers, watercolorists and those working on paper must use a minimum of a full sheet (22″ x 30″ unframed). Diptychs, and Triptychs are not allowed.
  • “Small” Submissions may not exceed 12″ including the frame.
  • One submission per artist, artists must choose either “Big” or “Small”.
Works should be delivered to the Dodge House Gallery between August 7 and 10 during the hours of 9:00am – 3:00pm. If you need to make an appointment to drop off a work outside of these hours, please contact the Gallery Coordinator to arrange it. Works must be checked in with a member of the Gallery Staff and artists must fill out an entry form to accompany their object.
Please note: The show will be on view during the month of August during the Club’s adjusted summer hours which are weekdays 12:00-3:00pm. The galleries are closed all weekends in August.
