Eleanor Talbot Meets the Press

Eleanor Talbot, 1851-1943, was one of the sixteen founders of the Providence Art Club. Much of her life’s story had been lost over time. Audrey Monahan started researching Eleanor in 2016 and uncovered some surprising facts about her. As a way to communicate Eleanor’s life and artistic accomplishments to members on Founder’s Night, 2020, Audrey wrote a short play with two characters; the artist and writer Eleanor Talbot and the dashing reporter from the Providence Gazette, Mr Patrick “Scoop” Williams. Mr Williams was there to interview Miss Talbot in a series of articles he was writing for his newspaper about “a modern woman in post-Civil War Providence”.
